29th June 2006 - Catalina Island

As the tour continues, we have left Los Angeles for a couple of days to visit Catalina Island. It is an hour off of the coast of LA and is just a quiet fishing village. But because we are out of the city and the smog, the humid and cloudy 22 degrees has turned into a balmy cloudless 29 degrees. Semi-Nekkidness has been a key factor these past 3 days as I have been trying to brown up 'the guns'. Mostly my nose and forehead have gone red.

Sarah has tanned quite nicely though. ( not the best picture but please forgive...)

The island is 54 miles around but is mostly uninhabital rock and cliffs leading to peril and death. So we are staying in the port of Avalon in a tiny room at the Hermosa Hotel. It's pretty cheap, we would have preferred to have a chair and no rusted up sink, but we can't be choosey.

Been for at least one run along the coast to the Casino, which apparently is an old Italian name for a 'gathering place' NOT an actual casino which pretty much makes the whole impressive building a waste of space. But all in all the island is really nice and there are some picturesque views. Some of you lucky devils will get postcards of said views! But I don't want to name names as those favourites may be sought out and lynched.

We've walked pretty much everywhere we can on the island and only drunk at 90% of their bars... we need to settle a slight difference. Over here they have 'Bud Light' and 'Coors light', Sarah says that it is a low alcohol version, but I say it is a low calorie beer... who is right? We haven't tested it out yet as who wants to sink 5 plus beers of low alcohol lager to prove it doesn't get you drunk?

We've been out kayaking and generally have been sunbathing and chilling out. Soon we will be back in LA and then onto Vegas.

There is a plan to watch the football where possible, we will catch a game tomorrow morning before our ferry, then can catch some of the 2nd game on the ferry, like we caught Spain v France on the way over. Still think England can do it, maybe it is just my sunny disposition talking...
Enough for now.

P.S. There has been no internet on the island so I will update this when I can! This will make a good excuse for the next P.P.S

P.P.S. Happy birthday Jenny! Welcome to the old club!
